The industry brief

Beauty packaging has more than one customer-facing surface.

The bottle, jar, tube, compact, palette, or gift set needs to fit; the opening needs to feel intentional; the printed face needs to match the approved reference; the label needs to suit its surface and use; and the packed units need to arrive reconciled. Start by describing the product and the moment around it.

Do not assume a packaging category is a specification. “Luxury box,” “eco insert,” “waterproof label,” and “premium finish” still need dimensions, materials, process, acceptance criteria, sample evidence, and delivery scope.

1 · Build the beauty brief

Capture the inputs that change the structure.

The same box style can behave differently when the container, insert, surface, opening, or route changes.

2 · Coordinate the system

A coherent beauty launch keeps boxes, inserts, labels, and evidence on one revision path.

  • Fragrance and glass bottlesStart with bottle dimensions, weight, closure, neck or shoulder, surface protection, insert retention, and the desired opening sequence. See the perfume box route.
  • Skincare and personal careDefine tube, jar, pump, or bottle fit, upright orientation, leakage or surface concerns, label application, and the pack-out needed for handling.
  • Makeup and compact productsControl cavity geometry, removal, palette or compact protection, color and finish references, and any code or information checks.
  • Gift sets and launch bundlesMap every item, accessory, insert layer, documentation, presentation order, carton grouping, and version so the set is not quoted as an undefined “bundle.”

3 · Plan the launch gates

The right sequence protects both the product and the brand experience.

Use dated gates for decisions that affect artwork, tooling, materials, quality, packing, or delivery.

  1. 01

    Product and use briefing

Confirm the actual container, use, dimensions, weight, opening, exposure, destination, quantity, and launch date.

  2. 02

    Structure and insert proposal

Define internal fit, board or material build, closure, finish, insert, label route, and the information still required.

  3. 03

    Representative sample

Check fit, movement, appearance, print, finish, removal, protection, and pack-out using the intended production route where possible.

  4. 04

    Quality and evidence plan

Name the checks, test records, defect boundaries, retained references, carton controls, and release owner before bulk production.

  5. 05

    Pack and deliver

Reconcile released quantities, cartons, marks, dimensions, weight, dispatch evidence, and receiving requirements with the delivery plan.
