Lining surface Requested fabric, flock, paper, fiber, or other finish, including color and tactile reference. Abrasion, loose fibers, dye or color transfer, seams, wrinkles, edge turns, odor, and visible marks after insertion and removal.
Structural core Product mass, retention force, desired profile, cavity detail, flex, and expected handling. Core material and grade, compression, recovery, cut quality, wrap adhesion, and whether hard edges can reach the product.
Adhesives and seams Restricted substances or contact requirements, storage conditions, and areas that must remain free of adhesive. Adhesive placement, bleed or migration risk, seam position, curing, odor, and compatibility with the agreed product and contact layer.
Storage environment Expected packing and storage time, humidity and temperature range if controlled, and any protective component requested by the brand. The complete packed system and stated validation method. Do not treat the presentation box alone as an anti-tarnish guarantee.

Material rule: fabric, flock, foam, molded fiber, coatings, and specialized protective components are subject to sourcing and project suitability. Record the actual proposed construction and required documentation in the quote and sample approval.

Retention and removal

Hold the item where the user can still release it.

Retention is not simply a tight cavity. It is the balance between movement control, contact pressure, clear product presentation, and a removal path that does not pull on delicate parts.

  • Set restraint at approved structural zones rather than stones, crowns, posts, clasps, or high-gloss faces
  • Add finger recesses, lift ribbons, removable cushions, or accessible tabs where the item cannot be gripped safely
  • Keep chains, backs, documentation, and accessories separated so one component cannot mark another
  • Check retention and removal after the loaded box is handled in its intended shipping orientation
  • Define whether the insert is fixed, removable, replaceable, or SKU-specific before tooling and artwork approval

Hinge and closure behavior

Approve the open position, not only the closed silhouette.

The opening must present the item, keep the insert aligned, and close without striking the jewelry or dragging the contact surface.

Review hinge alignment, opening angle, lid stability, interior clearance, closure effort, and whether the lid or liner can touch a raised setting. Closure hardware and material route are confirmed per project.

Lid and base

Separate two-piece opening

Define lid depth, lift effort, reveal speed, insert seating, and a place to hold the base while removing the lid. Check that stacking or packed pressure does not transfer onto the item.

Horizontal product reveal

Use tray travel, pull access, and insert orientation to control the reveal. The item must remain retained as the tray moves, and the user should not need to pull a ribbon near a delicate chain or projection.

Closure note: if magnets or metal closure components are being considered, disclose product and brand restrictions first. Do not assume one closure is suitable for every watch, device, accessory, or retail environment.

Brand system and size family

Make the range recognizable without hiding SKU differences.

A family can share exterior cues while internal structures change by item. The specification should distinguish what is locked across the range from what needs separate approval.

  • Shared exterior logic Set the proportion, wrap family, logo position, edge treatment, opening orientation, and photography view that make the range read as one brand.
  • SKU-specific interiors Control cavity, slot, cushion, chain path, color, insert depth, and removal features for each product envelope rather than stretching one fit across unrelated items.
  • Artwork and finish Approve foil, emboss, deboss, print, or applied labels on the actual wrap. Fine marks, seams, wrap texture, and small box faces can limit the usable detail.
  • Identification Define SKU code, size name, insert version, barcode or label position, mixed-carton rules, and which differences warehouse staff can see before opening the box.
  • Change control Keep separate drawings, bills of material, artwork versions, approval samples, and carton counts where the exterior is shared but the interior is not.

Sign off drawings, artwork, materials, colors, finish placement, loaded fit, visual workmanship, pack-out, and the agreed inspection approach.

04 · Inspect

Keep every SKU traceable

Check dimensions, insert version, closure action, product access, surface condition, logo position, carton count, labels, and separation against the approved references.

Outer shipping specification

The presentation box is a unit pack, not automatically a shipper.

Jewelry boxes can be compact yet vulnerable to lid pressure, edge rub, mixed-SKU errors, and movement inside a master carton. Approve the outer pack with loaded production-equivalent units.

  • Define unit protection such as a sleeve, bag, tissue, divider, or individual carton where the approved surface requires it
  • Set orientation so product mass does not work against the lid, hinge, drawer opening, insert, or delicate presentation face
  • Use dividers or cells when direct box-to-box contact could mark wraps, foil, corners, or closures
  • Record units per carton, layer pattern, mixed-SKU rules, carton labels, gross weight, dimensions, and pallet requirements if any
  • Agree any route-specific handling or validation requirement rather than making a universal transit claim
