Nominal capacity does not define the package. Bottle height, diameter, shoulder, neck, closure, glass features, label, and filled mass all affect the internal structure.

Wine bottle inputs to document before structural sampling.
Input What to record Packaging decision
Maximum envelope Overall height, body diameter, shoulder transition, neck diameter, closure height and diameter, base profile, and known bottle variation. Inside clearance, cavity geometry, lid depth, divider position, and whether one structure can cover the stated SKU range.
Loaded weight Filled bottle weight, bottle count, accessories, documentation, and any separate components packed in the same unit. Bottom panel, base support, insert construction, lifting behavior, closure demand, and master-carton gross weight.
Contact map Glass features, label edges, foil capsule, closure, decorated areas, visible faces, and surfaces that should not be rubbed or compressed. Permitted support zones, insert coverage, clearance, lining, seam location, and removal grip.
Use sequence Upright or horizontal presentation, shelf and gifting context, opening direction, one- or two-hand removal, and accessory order. Box format, bottle orientation, finger access, lift ribbon or tray, reveal, and return-to-box behavior.

Sampling input: provide a production-equivalent filled bottle where practical, or a controlled model plus the actual loaded weight. Empty display samples can miss how the bottom, insert, closure, and lifting experience behave under load.

Support from bottom to neck

Carry the weight at the base, then control movement above it.

The glass base and approved body zones should define the load path. Shoulder and neck features can help locate the bottle, but they should not become unreviewed pressure points or carry the filled mass by themselves.

  • Build bottom support around the filled weight, base diameter, punt or push-up, and intended presentation orientation
  • Use the body, shoulder, or neck only at documented support zones with clearance from labels, capsules, embossing, and decorative glass
  • Keep the closure and top of the bottle clear of the lid, accessory tray, hinge path, and stacking pressure
  • Add finger recesses, lift ribbons, removable platforms, or side access so the user does not pull on the neck or label
  • Review the loaded insert after opening, lifting, replacing, and handling the complete presentation box

Presentation structure routes

Choose the opening around access and bottle geometry.

The outside silhouette comes after the bottle, load path, removal sequence, shelf context, and outer shipping plan. Each route needs its own loaded sample.

Wide-access route

Rigid lid-and-base or book style

A custom rigid box can present one or two bottles with broad insert access. Define lid depth or hinge clearance, lifting grip, loaded base stiffness, insert seating, and where the open lid rests.

Hinged route

Magnetic presentation box

A custom magnetic box adds a book-style opening and closing action. Check closure alignment and effort under load, bottle and accessory clearance, magnet placement, and the condition of the wrap after repeated handling.

Cylindrical route

Paper tube packaging

Custom paper tube packaging can follow a single bottle's round profile. Specify the usable inside diameter, wall and end construction, base load, cap fit, bottle access, anti-rotation needs, and outer-carton orientation.

Single and double bottle layouts

Treat every bottle position as its own loaded cavity.

A double-bottle gift set is not one enlarged opening. Each position needs defined weight support, glass separation, top clearance, identification, and an independent removal path.

  • Single-bottle focus Center the bottle visually without hiding finger access. Record whether accessories sit beside, above, or below it and whether they can move toward the glass.
  • Double-bottle separation Use a divider or separate cavities to prevent glass-to-glass contact. Confirm that removing the first bottle does not release, tip, or overload the second.
  • Mixed bottle profiles Control different heights, diameters, shoulders, closures, weights, and label positions separately rather than assuming two nominally similar bottles share one fit.
  • Bottom load distribution Review where each bottle base transfers weight into the insert and box. Keep unsupported openings, ribbon slots, and accessory wells away from critical load paths.
  • Removal and replacement Approve grip space, lift features, and the order of removal with representative filled bottles, then verify that the pack can be closed again without forcing components.

Surface and condensation brief

Specify contact after chilling, handling, and presentation.

If a chilled bottle may be placed back into the box, document the temperature context, likely condensation, contact time, storage orientation, and which paper, lining, print, foil, label, or adhesive areas could become damp.

  • Identify wet-contact and no-contact zones instead of treating the complete box as one material condition
  • Keep insert edges, seams, and lift features from rubbing the bottle label or foil capsule during removal
  • Sample the proposed wrap, print, foil, lining, insert, and adhesive for the brand's stated handling scenario
  • Record the label position in the box drawing so structural support and decoration do not compete for the same surface

Sample, QC, and pack-out

Approve the loaded system, not an empty shell.

The sampling route, inspection criteria, and pack-out are set after bottle data, construction, materials, quantities, artwork, destination, and handling needs are known.

02 · Sample

Load and handle the structure

Check base support, shoulder and neck location, top clearance, insert seating, removal, lid or hinge action, accessories, surfaces, and reopening.

03 · Approve

Set visible and dimensional references

Approve drawings, materials, color, finish placement, loaded fit, workmanship limits, carton count, orientation, labels, and inspection points.

04 · Pack

Verify unit and master carton

Confirm unit protection, dividers, loaded orientation, mixed-SKU rules, gross weight, carton dimensions, labeling, and the agreed route-specific review.

Gift box plus shipping case

Protect the bottle and the presentation surface in separate layers.

A premium bottle box is normally specified as the unit presentation pack. The corrugated shipping box, dividers, cushioning, loading pattern, and pallet plan should be developed around the complete loaded unit.

  • Prevent direct gift-box contact where wraps, foil, corners, lids, or closures could mark each other
  • Choose carton orientation from bottle mass, closure direction, insert retention, and the presentation box's structural path
  • Record units per carton, layer pattern, dividers, void control, mixed-SKU rules, gross weight, dimensions, and carton identification
  • Approve the full representative pack for the intended distribution route rather than making a universal shipping assumption
